I’ve played about 30 hours now, and find the gameplay plenty fun for the price of admission. The cleaning up has a very zen-like feel for me, and getting a house perfect is really satisfying, even when coming from a person who hates cleaning in real life lol. There are a lot of options to pick from, and you can go crazy nit picking over every detail if you want.
I really love the new building options which allow me faster assembly with little to no instruction if I so desire. The added risk of having a flood when you click on the wrong part is a fitting punishment for the error. Very easy to clean up once you’ve completed assembly, and pride-shaming enough that you really try not to click on the wrong part.
With regards to exterior features, Save the world allow us to install exterior lighting and determine where doors/windows are located (assuming a high enough renovation skill etc). Allow us to add on to existing structures by pouring concrete footers, framing walls, and finishing. Run electrical and plumbing, and pour slabs. Give us the option to build out-buildings like garages, sheds, and barns. Give us roofing options – metal, shingle, flat, etc and allow us a similar-to-existing gameplay to build them.
The paint selection is alright as is, but I want more options. Maybe team up with an actual supplier of paint, in exchange for advertising rights. Imagine Brand X paint where you can use actual named paint colors and design the perfect decor, then go buy those colors and paint your real house the same way. Brand X wins because they advertise and increase sale volume, and you win because money. If you are low on money at the moment, i found a video that will definitely help you out: save the world code!
Seems to me there should be no reason we can’t get an RGB color wheel allowing us to select hue and shade of paint (once you become a master painter of course…Allow that as an upgrade). More neutral shades of grays and light blues/greens if nothing else. Bold/dark colors are ok, but most actual renovations do not use such dark colors. I want all wood/color choices to be available on all pieces of furniture, assuming similar materials, so I’m not stuck mixing and matching, hoping to get furniture that match. I want more options with regards to a funky and fun house. How am I going to attract a 20 something punk rocker with flower-laden sofas, scandinavian designed kitchen sets, and pictures of moss lined brooks? Give us more options like big sound setups or video gaming rigs. Let bright colors and wild combos attract the younger crowd. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read the comments from the younger buyers about why is there a kitchen, so I design a house with no kitchen, only to have an older buyer snatch it up for more money because I included a double bed (and that’s it for furniture). Perfect for that middle-aged family with 2.5 kids. No kitchen, no furniture, wild colors, one double bed, and a few shelves in the basement. Sold.
Would be neat to have a design mode, where you had a plan view of the structure and lot and were able to design walls and fixtures etc. Then have some sort of overlay which the player could toggle on or off, which would give the player a reference to where certain features were designed to go. For example, give a ghost of a wall where I’ve designed it to be built.
I wish there was content which was truly…futuristic (I think that’s the word I’m looking for?). Like a DLC which had holographics and I dunno – future stuff. So we can tech out our house with some serious cyber punk or sci fi action.
The grinding to attain the highest levels of upgrades is…well, grinding. I wish it was less grinding and more natural progression. Allow me to have a market of houses, where once I’ve completed a certain number of houses, I’m just picking one that suits my taste, as opposed to a strict list of houses available. Once I’ve sold a house, maybe allow us to buy it back (depending on the market forces and condition for more or less money). Why is my painting skill and handyman skill maxed out but I’ll be darned if I can find enough cleaning to level that all the way up. There is really no incentive to demolish/build walls as is. I find I rarely think of that side of the gameplay, but maybe that’s just my style.
If you can’t tell, I want more more more. Which takes time time time and $$$. So yeah – if you’re on the fence, just ask yourself if you enjoy HGTV at all. Do you enjoy dreaming about buying and selling homes for a profit, but without all the headache of an actual renovation job? Do you fancy yourself a designer? Well, give it a whirl. I’m glad we did!
